Homemade Salsa Verde

 
 

Salsa Verde is a green salsa made with Tomatillos. If you are unfamiliar with them, they are similar to green tomatoes, however, they are sourer and are their own vegetable. You can find Tamatillo's at your local Mexican grocer or well-stocked supermarket.

What you will need


  • 1 pound fresh tomatillos, husks removed
  • 2 jalapeño peppers, stem removed
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1/3 cup diced white onion
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin


  • Method

    1.Place tomatillo's and peppers on the grill and roast for about 15 minutes, moving the vegetables to an indirect heat after the first few minutes. Smoke until soft.

    2.Remove tomatillos and peppers from the smoker and add to the food processor along with remaining ingredients. Pulse until salsa meets desired consistency.

    3. Serve as a topping on your favorite Tex Mex style barbecue.
